Centre says it is taking series of steps to check inflation; states advised for crack down on hoarders

Center has asked the state governments to crack down on hoarders to check the prices of essential commodities. The states have also been advised to delist fruits and vegetables from Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee Act to ensure their availability in the market at reasonable price.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitely held a meeting with Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman besides Principal Secretary to Prime Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday evening and discussed the issue of price rise. Talking to reporters after the meeting,

Mr. Jaitley said that the government is monitoring prices of 22 commodities and it has noticed increase in price of 4 to 5 commodities, which is on the speculation that Country, might have deficient monsoon. Mr. Jaitely said the government has taken series of steps to deal with price rise and additional quantities of rice will be released into the market.

The minister said Delhi government has also been asked to delist fruits and vegetables from Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee Act from tomorrow and make available onions through mother dairy and other outlets.
