The Centre has rushed four thousand additional paramilitary personnel to Manipur in its efforts to reopen a national highway which has been blocked for nearly two months by a Naga group. Sources said, the security personnel were sent to the northeastern state keeping in view the security situation following the economic blockade. With this, the total number of central security personnel deployed in the state has gone up to 17,500.

Earlier, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who was on a day-long visit to Manipur as a central emissary, had said that it is completely unacceptable to have such kinds of blockades in which thousands are suffering. He had said, the central and Manipur governments will work together to end it. He also said, nobody will be allowed to take political advantage out of a humanitarian crisis where common people are suffering.

Meanwhile, life is slowly returning to normal after about two weeks. No untoward incident was reported from any parts of the state in the last 48 hours. However, curfew is still continuing in Imphal West and Imphal East districts from 9 at night to 4 in the morning daily.

Violence rocked Manipur and Imphal valley after state government formed seven new revenue districts.
