Centre releases policy on Electronics Systems and Design Manufacturing

Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mr Kapil Sibal today said that draft National Policy on Electronics envisages creating a globally competitive Electronics Systems and Design Manufacturing (ESDM) industry.It also includes nano-electronics to meet the country's needs and serve the international market.

Releasing the policy Mr. Kapil Sibal said that the draft policy sets out to achieve a turnover of about 400 Billion US dollar by 2020 and involves investment of about 100 US Billion dollar and aims at ensuring employment to around 28 million in the sector by 2020.He said that policy also proposes to set up of over 200 electronic manufacturing clusters.

The Minister said another important facet of the policy is to significantly upscale high-end human resource creation to 2500 PhDs annually by 2020 in this sector. Other highlights of the draft policy include using innovation and research and development capabilities to develop electronic products catering to domestic needs and conditions at affordable price points.Setting up of Centres of Excellence in the area of automotive electronics and adopting best practices in e-waste management are some other highlights.
