Centre releases over Rs 2000 crore for drought hit Tamil Nadu

Centre has released over 2 thousand and 14 crore rupees as Central Assistance for drought hit Tamil Nadu. This was finalised at a High Level Committee meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.<br/><br/>The Home Ministry in a statement said, the financial assistance to Tamil Nadu includes over 1,748 crore rupees for drought during Kharif season, 264 crore rupees for cyclonic storm Vardha and 2 crore rupees under National Rural Drinking Water Programme. <br/><br/>Earlier, Tamil Nadu Government had submitted memoranda to the Centre seeking assistance in the wake of drought and the cyclonic storm which affected the state.<br/><br/>The Centre had sent Inter-Ministerial Central Team to Tamil Nadu to assess the situation and on the recommendations of the team and the Sub Committee of the National Executive Committee, the High Level Committee approved the assistance.
