Centre released over Rs 4000 cr to States for health in backward, tribal areas: Azad

The government has released more than four thousand crores rupees to the States for providing adequate health care and medical facilities in the backward and tribal areas under National Rural Health Mission, NRHM. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad said that 264 districts have been identified for focussed attention under the mission. The minister said 461 districts in different states have been equipped with more than 1500 mobile medical units to provide health care services to unserved and under served areas. Giving the details Mr. Azad said that community ownership of health facilities has been promoted by constituting about five lakh village health sanitation and nutrition committees. The Minister said that health care infrastructure has been strengthened under the NRHM by taking up new construction and upgradation of public health facilities. He said the centre has provided 70 thousand crore rupees to the States under the mission during the 11th five year plan for infrastructure development.
