Centre rejects BJP demand for recall of Karnataka Governor

The Government on Monday rejected the BJP demand for the recall of the Karnataka Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj, saying he has only performed a constitutional duty by sending a report for the imposition of the President's rule in the State. Addressing the media in New Delhi, the Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram said that though the Governor's report was rejected by the Centre, his Ministry will issue an advisory to the Karnataka government to take remedial action on certain issues highlighted by Mr. Bharadwaj. He said issues like corruption, illegal mining, complaints by Lokayukta and instances of oppression of minorities do not fall under good governance and the State Government must take corrective action.Expressing concern over the huge recovery of fire arms from West Midnapur district of West Bengal, Mr. Chidambaram asked the new government to check the proliferation of illegal arms.
