Centre reiterates resolve to make India No 1 on global Science education map

The Centre has reiterated its resolve to make the Country number one on the global map in Science education. Human Resource Development Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal said this while talking to reporters in New Delhi this evening after the meeting of Indian Institute of Technology Council.

He said that the IIT will raise its facility strength from 4000 to 16000 faculties by 2020 and produce 40000 PHD's by then. Regarding the Fee Structure in IIT's, the Minister said that these institutions will charge the present fee of fifty thousand rupees per year and students belonging to SC and ST and OBC categories will continue to pay the old fees.

He said that for selection in IIT's student have to appear in a common test. This will come into force from 2013-14 academic sessions. The Minister said that the Council took note of the incidents of sucides for varying reasons in IITs.

The Council decided to constitute a Task Force headed by an eminent person and include respresentatives of parents, teachers, alumni, professional counselors and to submit its report within four months.
