Government has rehabilitated around nine lakh children so far under National Child Labour Project, NCLP, Scheme since its inception in the country. Under the Project, children withdrawn from work, are enrolled in the special schools, where they are provided with bridge education, vocational training, stipend and health care before mainstreaming them into formal education system.
According to an official release, the Ministry of Labour is implementing this NCLP scheme in 266 districts across the country for rehabilitation of children rescued from work.
Over 22 thousand persons have also been prosecuted and over 3 thousands were convicted for violating the provisions of the Child Labour Act during last three years.
