Centre proposes to enhance FDI up to 74 per cent in defence production

In a major step forward towards in designation of defence production in the country, the government has proposed enhancement of Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, in the sector upto 74 per cent from 26 per cent. <br/><br/>The Industry Ministry today proposed this saying urgent upgrade of equipment in the armed forces was needed as a bulk of them suffered from obsolescence. <br/><br/>The discussion paper issued by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion ,DIPP, in New Delhi today,however, said the hike in the FDI need not mean any commitment on procuring from companies,which have set up the facilities in India. <br/><br/>The DIPP has sought views of different stakeholders till 31st of July.<br/><br/>The paper has been put in the public domain.The DIPP has however, clarified that the suggested policy should<br/>not be construed as the firm views of the government.
