Centre plans to scrap the existing sedition law. Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Rajya Sabha, his ministry has referred the issue to Law Commission and once, its report is available, a final decision will be taken. Intervening during question hour, he agreed to opposition suggestion to convene an all-party meeting to arrive at a consensus on the issue.<br/><br/>In a written answer, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Chaudhary said, Law Ministry has asked the Law Commission to consider comprehensive review of the criminal laws. The Commission has already identified certain focus areas and formed subgroups to deliberate the revision. He said, 47 cases have been registered under the Sedition Act in 2014.
