Centre plans to give names of State approves FDI in retail<br/>

Centre plans to place on the floor of Parliament the names of the States which had approved opening of FDI in retail. All the states were consulted before taking a final decision on the issue. The Cabinet recently decided to open multi brand retail to 51 percent foreign direct investment and raise it in single brand to 100 percent. Talking to reporters after meeting a farmer&apos;s delegation from Haryana, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma charged the BJP of taking a U-turn over the issue. He said while the Centre respects the right of the states which do not want the FDI in retail, these states cannot deprive those states who want it. The minister said those farmers who met him have welcomed it and they want the government to stand firm, because they feel it is in their interest.Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh ruled by BJP had supported the proposal with certain suggestions for a strong regulatory mechanism in place. BJP however is opposing the government decision at the Centre. It is pressing for immediate roll back of the decision. The ruling Congress led combine is opposed to it saying that the decision is pro-people and will help bring down prices. This has led to a logjam in Parliament. The two Houses could not transact much business this week due to the stalemate over the issue.
