Centre okays creation of ITBP’s 2 battalion centres, Sect HQ in Bihar

The Centre has given its nod for creation of two battalion centres and a sector headquarter of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, ITBP, in Bihar. While the battalion centres will come at Chapra and

Katihar districts, a sector headquarter headed by a Deputy Inspector General rank officer will come up at the state capital. A senior ITBP official said, these units will function as the first responders for troop enhancement and logistical support for the force which is entrusted to guard the crucial frontier with China.

AIR correspondent reports, this is the first time that the ITBP is creating bases in Bihar, a state which is in the planes. Major bases and troop centres of the force are largely in states in the eastern sector bordering China. The ITBP guards 3,488-kilometre of the Sino-Indian frontier and is on a spree to establish its battalion centres in the plains to help troops get rest and change from their regular deployment in mountainous areas.
