Union Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram has said that the Centre is willing to offer an additional assistance of 500 crores for rehabilitation of internally displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka. Speaking to newsmen after a meeting with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.Karunanidhi in Chennai on Monday, he said this assistance will be given if the Sri Lankan government comes with fresh proposals. The Centre has already committed a package of 500 crore rupees for rehabilitation and resettlement of Tamils, he added. Mr. Chidambaram said that he discussed about the process of resettlement of Tamils kept in the camps. The Home Minister said as per the assurance given to the delegation of MPs which had been to Sri Lanka recently, over 5000 Tamils have been sent back to their homes and the rest would be resettled in a phased manner. <br/><br/>
