The Centre has notified the Animal Birth Control Dogs Rules, to control the population of stray dogs. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Health Minister J P Nadda said the government is implementing National Rabies Control Programme with an objective to prevent human deaths due to rabies. <br/><br/>Mr Nadda said 100 deaths were reported last year due to rabies. As per data one hundred four in 2014 and 132 deaths reported in 2013 due to rabies. He also said, health is a state subject and it is primarily the responsibility of state governments to ensure the availability of anti-rabies vaccine. The Minister said, under the National Health Mission, funds are provided to states and UTs to strengthen their healthcare system including support for anti-rabies vaccines.
