Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Ram Shankar Katheria has said that the Centre is mulling to relieve government school teachers from non-academic assignments in order to improve the quality of education. <br/><br/>He said deliberations are on to find out the solution so that teachers are not occupied in non-academic work like election duties which adversely affects the education of the children. <br/><br/>Mr Katheria was addressing the 19th Nirma International Conference on Management at Nirma University in Ahmedabad yesterday. He said that the Government school teachers are given election and Census data collection duties. They are also given assignments for implementing various Government schemes. <br/><br/>The issue of putting teachers for election as well as Census duties has been a widely debated issue in India. Supreme Court has also asked the government not to assign such duties to teachers during working hours. Various teachers' associations as well as schools have also raised objections against such practice.
