Centre mulling hike in compensation for LWE under SRE scheme

The Centre is considering hike in the compensation under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme for Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country. This was stated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the Lok Sabha today. <br/><br/>At present, the Centre reimburses to the State governments the ex-gratia payments of one lakh rupees to the family of civilian and three lakh rupees to the family of security personnel killed in LWE violence.<br/><br/>Replying to supplementaries, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said the central has taken various steps for keeping a close vigil on the international borders by way of deployment of security forces and equipping them with modern equipments, erection of fencing, installation of floodlights and strengthening of riverine patrolling.<br/><br/>Mr Ahir also said the neighbouring countries have been urged to take stern action against the leaders of Indian Insurgent Groups and dismantle their safe houses.<br/><br/>Mr Ahir also said the government is supplementing the efforts of the state governments to contain militancy. He, however, said there is no specific information that National Socialists Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) is acting at the behest of neighbouring countries.
