Centre moves SC for re-exam of verdict on Sec-377 of IPC

The government on Friday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict on section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalises same sex relations between adults.

Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal said this in his tweet, and expressed the hope that the right to personal choice will be preserved.

The Supreme Court had, in its judgment upholding Section 377, set aside Delhi High Court's verdict decriminalising homosexuality.

The apex court pointed out that it had merely examined the legality of the law and said Parliament could make changes to the law if needed.

The Congress had expressed disappointment over the apex court's order after it had set aside the Delhi High Court order decriminalising homosexuality.
