The Centre is considering a task force to look into thermal power and transmission issues in greater detail. Addressing the state Power Ministers in New Delhi this morning, Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia urged them to strengthen sub-transmission and distribution systems in the states. He said, the Centre is providing a lot of resources to the states under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana and National Electricity Fund and asked them to send their additional requirements. Scindia said procurement of power is a major issue that needs to be looked into.
The Power Minister said, the Centre is making all out efforts to electrify all households in the country by 2017.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah pleaded with the Centre for a special package of one thousand crore rupees for execution of phase-II of Baglihar hydro-electric project.
