The Centre today launched the Urban Slum Health Check Up Scheme for Diabetes and Blood pressure patients. The scheme is to be implemented in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Under the scheme, the Central Government will provide test kits including glucometers and the states will take care of logistics. Launching the scheme on the World Diabetes Day, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Ghulam Ali Azad said that government has identified 100 districts and slum areas of 30 cities with more than 10 lakh population where 20,000 subcentres will do the screening of about 17 to 18 crore people. Mr Azad also announced that very soon the Government will launch a scheme for screening diabetes among children.
