Centre has launched a nation wide scheme for promotion of sports infrastructure. Sports and youth affairs minister Dr. M S Gill informed the RAJYA Sabha that for promoting sports competitions are being organised at the village and block level Panchayats. 1500 crore rupees have been earmarked for the scheme in the current plan. He said 2.50 lakh villages besides 6400 block Panchayats will be covered in ten years time. An amount of about 251 crore rupees has been sanctioned under this scheme to 24 seats.
