Centre launches CFCs to empower West Bengal women in jute sector

The Centre today launched three Common Facility Centers for Self Help Groups women of West Bengal to promote Jute diversified products. The Union Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gungwar inaugurated this at a function in Kolkata today. He said besides West Bengal one such centre each has been sanctioned for Assam and Bihar. Under the scheme, women Self Help Group members will be given training on diversified use of Jute, designing of market worthy jute products and its marketing. <br/><br/>Mr. Gangwar said that the Centre is committed to protect the interest of Jute growers and keeping close watch on the implementation of relevant laws on Jute packaging. The Textile Minister informed that the production of jute in the country are increasing and Rs 1,814 crore foreign exchange were earned from this sector last year. Mr. Gangwar also laid the foundation stone named as 'PATSAN' Bhavan which will come up at New Town in Kolkata.<br/> <br/>Speaking on the occasion the Textile Secretary Mr. Sanjay Kumar Panda said that the centre has taken steps for revival of ailing jute factories in West Bengal. He urged the State Government for using Geo-textiles for spreading the use of jute.
