Government has launched a campaign to build a consensus among the political parties on civil liability for nuclear damage bill. The National Security Advise, Mr Shiv Shankar Menon briefed the Senior BJP leaders about the importance of the bill today and attempted to address their concerns.<br/><br/>Mr Menon on Tuesday briefed several Congress leaders and Union Ministers on the bill. According to official sources, Mr Menon alongwith the Chairman of the Atomic Commission will brief Left and other parties on the provisions of the Bill in the next two days. <br/><br/>The bill was deferred in the lok Sabha following stiff opposition by the BJP and the Left Parties. The objective of the government is to counter the misinformation campaign agaist the bill so that it is passed in the second half of Budget Session beginning on 12th of next month.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports that after the enactment of the Legislation, India will sign the IAEA's convention on supplementary compensation for nuclear damage . It will also provide for any amount exceeding the government's liability of 2200 crores to be accessed from the international funds created for the purpose.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Government says all issues including raising of compensation in the bill can be discussed. Science and Technology Minsiter Prathviraj Chavan says that there will be no plan to open up nuclear sector for foreign investment.
