The Centre has notified plastic waste management rules-2016 to tackle the problem of pollution resulting from plastic waste in the country. <br/><br/>Addressing a press conference in New Delhi this afternoon, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said, the minimum thickness of plastic carry bags has been increased from 40 microns to 50 to allow its recycling. <br/><br/>He said, out of 15 thousand tonnes of plastic waste accumulated daily, only nine thousand tonnes are collected and the rest are left out due its thickness below 40 microns. He said, government is working on expanding the jurisdiction of plastic waste management from municipality level to gram panchayat level. <br/><br/>Plastic manufacturers are required to inform about their action plan for management of plastic waste to local and pollution control bodies. The Minister said to stop illegal manufacturing of plastic, the suppliers of raw material need to maintain a proper record in this regard.
