Centre intends to introduce city ranking under Swachh Bharat Mission

The Centre intends to rank State capitals, cities and municipalities on the basis of solid waste and related components under the Swachh Bharat Mission. <br/><br/>The Ministry of Urban Development will be conducting a survey from 1st January next year. Initially, 75 cities including 53 with population of over ten lakh are to be surveyed. Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. <br/><br/>Answering supplementaries, he said the main parameters for evaluation of the cities will be based on the components of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The Survey will be carried out by the Quality Council of India. <br/><br/>The first survey of the earmarked 75 cities will be completed by 31st January 2016. Subsequently, the survey will be conducted annually for 500 cities under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, AMRUT.
