Centre initiates peace dialogues with militant groups of Assam

The Centre has initiated preliminary process for peace dialogues with three militant groups of Assam. These militant groups included- Dima Halam Daogah(DHD) Jewel faction, United Peoples Democratic Solidarity(UPDS) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland(Pro-talk). The outfits have already laid down arms and sheltering in designated camps set up by the administration. <br/> <br/>According to reports, the Centre has set one year’s deadline to resolve the demands of these outfits. Former Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Mr. PC Haldar has been appointed as the interlocutor in consultation with the Assam Government for the talks with these three outfits. Mr. Halder has, meanwhile, arrived in Guwahati on a three-day visit to the State to start preliminary discussions with the militant groups. He has met the State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi at his residence yesterday and reportedly conveyed him on the Center’s plan of action. Mr. Halder also had several rounds of discussions in this regard with the State Chief Secretary Mr. Prafulla Chandra Sharma and the Director General of Police Mr. Shankar Barua. <br/><br/>
