The Centre has convened political level meeting on Darjeeling issue today. The Union Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram will preside over the meeting scheduled to be held in New Delhi. The Urban Development Minister of West Bengal Mr. Ashok Bhattacharjee and Home Secretary Mr. G.D Goutam will attend the meeting. Representatives of the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha who are agitating in the hills for separate Gorkhaland Statehood have also been invited. AIR correspondent understands that the Political level meeting assumes significance in view of present instability in the hills and it is likely to discuss on setting up of interim council in the Darjeeling. The opinion of the State Government is that the Council should be formed with the elected representatives in the hills.
