The Centre admitted that Narasimha Rao government had made a wrong political judgement in 1992 in trusting the then Uttar Pradesh government. Winding up the surcharged debate on the Liberhan Commission report in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram did not give a clean chit to senior BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying though he was not present in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 but he had delivered a speech a day earlier exhorting kar sevaks to go to Ayodhya where demolition took place. In an hour-long reply that was marred by continuous slogan-shouting by BJP and its allies, Mr Chidambaram asserted that the demolition of the disputed structure was a pre-planned and cold-blooded act conducted by the Sangh Parivar and BJP leaders like L K Advani and M M Joshi cannot escape responsibility. He said the then UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh had lied and given false promises about protecting the disputed structure with the sole intention of misleading the Centre. He said the promises were to secure inaction of the Central government.Mr Chidambaram said kar sevaks from various states and logistical support had been mobilised with the "sole intention" of destroying the structure. He said there is sufficient evidence to show that provocative statements were given by the likes of Uma Bharti, Sadhvi Rithambara, Acharya Dharmendra, Ashok Singhal and Vinay Katiyar. Alleging complicity of the Kalyan Singh government, Mr Chidambaram said Police stood as a mute spectator to the demolition and central forces, which were present there, were not deployed in adequate strength to protect the monument. He said that after the demolition, Kalyan Singh had admitted that he had fulfilled one of the major objectives of the party and election manifesto.Earlier, BJP rejected the Liberhan report, saying it was a political document prepared by an opportunist to target some people. BJP President Rajnath Singh and Deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the report was a bundle of errors and went on to even say that its leaders both inside and outside Parliament were ready for any punishment for what was the result of public movement.
