The Centre has sanctioned 148 crore rupees for engaging 8,000 volunteers through Nehru Yuva Kendras in Jammu and Kashmir in various nation building activities. This was revealed in the State Advisory Committee meeting of youth programme chaired by Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S. Chib. The decision is a sequel to implement the announcement made by Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh in Srinagar last year.<br/><br/>The Scheme is all set to be launched from May this Year and Prime Minister . Dr. Manmohan Singh is expected to launch this scheme . The Scheme will provide a unique opportunity for the rural youth to engage themselves in nation building activities. This scheme will infuse the spirit of volunteerism and self-help which will go a long way in sustainable development of the J&K State. This scheme will be launched in the next financial year for which selection process will start through NYKs in April 2010. Under the Scheme the Youth would be deployed for cleanings and maintenance of world famous Dal , Nagin and Mansar Lakes, creating awareness about environment, National Mission for Female Literacy, Health and Sanitation and Disaster Management besides acting as tourist guides to promote adventure, leisure and pilgrim tourism in the State.
