The Centre has released a grant of over 11 crore rupees for two universities in Delhi to make their buildings and campuses accessible to persons with disabilities. The grant released last month to Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Universities includes for providing ramps, toilets for wheel chair users, Braille signages, new elevators, auditory signals in existing elevators and tactile tiles.
In a press release, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said that over eight crore rupees have been released to Jawaharlal Nehru University for accessibility-related works in its 62 buildings, including administrative and academic blocks and 18 hostels.
It said that over three crore rupees have also been released to Delhi University to make accessible 80 buildings in its North and South Campuses, including administrative and academic blocks, a conference centre, hostels and two guest houses.
