Centre has constituted a five member team to assess the existing water bodies, farm pond and other sources of irrigation in the selected districts of Western Uttar Pradesh including Meerut and Muzaffarnagar. <br/><br/>The team will be on a two day visit to several villages of these areas from today to study status of irrigation development and implementation of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna. <br/><br/>The team of officers established by the Agriculture Ministry will suggest various measures for improving ground water recharge besides studying the feasibility of promoting micro irrigation and linking with available sources of water. <br/><br/>It will also assess the irrigation requirement in sugarcane areas, the water use efficiency for sugarcane crop and measures to promote precision irrigation in sugarcane farms.
