Centre for compulsory certification of MGNREG accounts by CAG appointed CA’s

The Centre has decided to go for compulsory certification of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee – MGNREG- Scheme accounts by chartered accountants appointed by CAG. It has also been decided to go for physical verification of at least 10 to 15 per cent of MGNREG scheme work orders and expenditure papers.

Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh, told media persons at Bhubaneswar today that the decision will be implemented from current 2012-13 financial year. He said the move will bring more transparency and accountability in the MGNREG Scheme. Ramesh said 99,000 crore rupees will be spent on rural development, water supply and sanitation in the current financial year.

Expressing concern over the non-development of Maoist-affected districts, he said the Centre has decided to allocate 30 crore rupees per district to all 78 Left Wing Extrimists affected districts under the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) project in this financial year.
