Centre extends support to U'khand for reconstruction of damaged infrastructure; All stranded people to be evacuated by this evening

In Uttarakhand, evacuation of all stranded pilgrims is expected to be completed by this evening.

Army, ITBP and NDRF jawans are busy in rescuing people stranded at Badrinath and Pithoragarh. The process was disrupted due to bad weather.

Seventeen helicopters have been pressed into service for evacuation operation. Apart from this, small helicopters are on duty to drop food packets and other essential items to the villagers affected by Nature's fury.

Kerosene and gas cylinders are being provided to the villagers on subsidised rates. Madhya Pradesh government has offered to adopt some devastated villages.

The Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan presented a five crore rupee cheque to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna as financial assistance.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh is in Dehradun to discuss implementation of restoring damaged infrastructure in the flood ravaged areas.

His Ministry has already announced construction of 14,000 additional houses under Indira Awas Yojana.

Our correspondent quoting official sources reports that it may take three to four months to revive water and power supply to some villages in Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts.
