Centre expresses hope that talks with NSCN(IM) will lead to honorable settlement of Naga issue

Home Minister P. Chidambaram has expressed hope that the talks with the NSCN (IM) leaders will lead to a honourable negotiated settlement of the Naga issue. Thuingaleng Muiva, General Secretary of National Socialist Council of Nagaland, NSCN-IM, who met the Home Minister onTuesday, told media persons that they had a comprehensive discussion with him and his organisation will continue negotiations with the Centre. He also called on the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The rebel leaders are holding talks with the new interlocutor, R.S. Pandey and will continue their discussions today as well. AIR correspondent reports that the NSCN-IM wants creation of greater Nagaland by incorporating the Naga dominated areas of the neighbouring states of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. This has, however, been opposed by these states. The last round of peace talks between the government and the separatist group held in March 2009 in Zurich, Switzerland ended in a stalemate.
