Centre emphasized to declare tea as national drink

In Assam, the three major organizations of tea industry have once again asked the Centre to declare tea as the National Drink. In a memorandum submitted to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, in Guwahati today. Assam Tea Planters’ Association, North Eastern Tea Association and Bharatiya Cha Parishad have also demanded on the proper implementation of the recommendation of S N Menon Committee to formulate and impose strict quality standard for export of tea.

They have also urged the Centre to set up a Human Resource Development institute for the tea industry at Dibrugarh or Jorhat.
