Centre directs NAFED, NCCF for immediate intervention in market for purchase of red onion in wake of reports of falling prices of onion

Centre has directed National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) and National Consumers Cooperative Federation of India Limited (NCCF) for immediate intervention in the market for purchase of red onion in the wake of reports of falling prices of onion.
 
The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry said that NAFED is reported to have purchased around four thousand metric tonnes at a rate above 900 rupees per quintal from the farmers. It has opened 40 procurement centres wherein farmers can sell their stock and get their payment online. NAFED has made arrangement for movement of the stock from purchase centres to Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi.
