Centre deploys additional para forces in Assam

The Centre has deployed ten additional companies of para-military forces in Assam. Official sources in Guwahati said that these companies are being sent to violence hit Karbi Anglong district.

Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner P K Buragohain said that night curfew will be lifted at Bokajan sub-division this evening. Day curfew has already been lifted. He said that villagers have started to leave relief camps as situation has been improved, but still around 3 thousand 500 are taking shelter at relief camps.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that assessment to the damaged caused during violence likely to be completed in another four to five days. Compensation will be given to affected people as per norms.

On the other hand, operation against militants is on in Karbi Anglong district. Police said that one cadre of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers who was involved in recent violence, has been arrested yesterday.
