Centre declares Leh disaster severe natural calamity; Allows MPs to contribute Rs 50 lakh rupees from MPLAD scheme

The government has declared the Leh disaster a severe natural calamity. It has allowed the members of Parliament to contribute 50 lakh rupees from the MPLAD scheme towards relief in the cloudburst affected region. The funds in this regard would be released by the district authority of the MP's constituency to its counterpart in Leh to get permissible works done.Meanwhile, life in cloudburst devastated Leh district is radually limping back to normal with groups of tourists undertaking trekking, people crowding eating joints and devotees flocking shrines. Many foreign tourists have joined hands with armed forces personnel and locals in the relief operations, clearing the sludge that had covered the vast land. The Army has reopened the crucial Leh-Manali route and is rebuilding several bridges.
