Central Government has declared Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh as a deemed university for a period of five years under the de novo category. This has been done on the advice of University Grants Commission, UGC. <br/><br/>It will be effective from the date CIBS disaffiliates itself for its courses, programmes from Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi and Tibetan Medicines and Astrology Department, Dharamsala. <br/><br/>However, the CIBS shall not offer any distance education programmes. It also shall not open or operate any off campuses, off shore campuses, new Departments without prior approval of the UGC. It will also be not permitted to affiliate any colleges or institutions.
