Centre convenes meeting on 4th Jan to discuss crime against women

The Centre has convened a meeting of Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police of all States on 4th of next month to discuss crime against women . Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today once again appealed all agitators to maintain peace and calm.

He asserted that all demands and suggestions of agitators have been heard and all measures are being taken to stop the recurrence of crime against women. The Home Minister said that the government has set up a Commission of Inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1952 to review responses to this crime and to suggest measures to improve the safety and security of women. Mr Shinde said that the commission has been asked to submit its report with in one month.

To fast track the hearing of Delhi gang rape case, Mr Shinde said that he will meet the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and request him to do the needful.

The Home Minister alleged that the issue is being politicised by the opposition and some hooligans have joined the agitation to give it a voilent face. Mr Shinde refuted the charges of some media reports that he compared the youth agitators with Maoists.
