Centre considers proposal to allow girls at Sainik Schools, girls cadet at National Defence Academy

The Centre is considering a proposal to allow girls at Sainik Schools and girl cadets at National Defence Academy. This was stated by the Minister of State for Defence Subhash Ramarao Bhamre in Lok Sabha today. <br/><br/>During Question hour, Mr. Bhamre said that there are 26 Sainik Schools covering 22 states in the country and the remaining 7 states have been requested to indicate their requirement for establishment of Sainik Schools in their states.<br/><br/>Replying to supplementaries he said at present 21 proposals for establishing Sainik Schools from various states and Union Territories have been received.<br/><br/>The objectives behind opening Sainik schools include removing regional imbalance in the officer cadre of the defence services. The Minister said the financial allocation to Sainik Schools by Defence Ministry during 2017-18 was 80 crore rupees.
