Centre considers proposal for financial sanction of Units 3 & 4 of Kudankulam plant

The Centre is considering a proposal for financial sanction of the Units Three and Four of the Kudankulam nuclear plant.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, V Narayanasamy said an Inter-Governmental Agreement was signed on December 5, 2008 between India and Russian Federation to extend the cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy, including the construction of additional nuclear power plant units at the Kudankulam site.

He said the agreement provides inter-alia for supply of fuel throughout the operational period of power units of the nuclear power plants at the site.

The Minister said the text of the Protocol for extending Russian State credit for implementation the two units has been approved by the Centre.

In another written reply, Mr Narayanasamy said the Hyderabad based Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) has successfully manufactured Steam Generator tubes for Prototype Fast Breeder Reactors. He said this is a successful indigenization effort.
