Centre concerned over slow progress in issuing Soil Health Cards to UP farmers

Centre has expressed concern over the slow progress in issuing Soil Health Cards to farmers in Uttar Pradesh. In a letter to State Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said the performance of the State has not been upto its potential. Mr Singh said, against a target of 18 lakh soil samples, only 4.68 lakh samples were collected till 9th of this month.

Of them about 23 thousand samples have been analysed so far. The Minister pointed out that soil health is one of the most important issues in agriculture especially in irrigated areas where extensive use of urea has resulted in deterioration in soil health. He urged the Chief Minister to monitor the programme so that the targets can be achieved.
