Centre committed to increase budgetary allocations for social services

The government is committed to increase the budgetary allocations for social services in the country. Addressing the concluding Diamond Jubilee function of Employees' State Insurance Corporation, ESIC in New Delhi today, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that expenditure of social services has been increased to 7.3 per cent of GDP in 2010-11 from 5.6 per cent in 2006-07. He emphasized the need for the appropriate skill development , education and robust health of workers.

He expressed confidence that by taking care of these three things India's workers will be the most sought after by 2030. The Minister said government's scheme of providing vocational education has been mandated to train 150 million persons by the year 2020.

Earlier, total digitalization and computerisation of ESIC working was also launched. On this occasion Communication and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal released a commemorative stamp on the 60 years of ESIC.
