Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assured that the Centre is committed to fulfill all its promises made at the time of bifurcation of the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2014. He was replying to a resumed Short Duration discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the status of implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 and the assurances given by the UPA government. He said Central Institutes like IIT, NIT, IIM and Indian Institute of Science have been functional and other commitments are at different stages of implementation. The Minister said National Highway Authority of India has given huge package for construction of highways in Andhra Pradesh. He said as per the recommendations of the 14 Finance Commission, Andhra Pradesh is entitled to 42 per cent share along with revenue deficit and other grants in central pool, which comes to two lakh six thousand 910 crore rupees. Under the 13th Finance Commission, the share of United Andhra Pradesh was only one lakh ten thousand 725 crore rupees. He urged all members not to take political mileage as it is a very sensitive issue. Mr Jaitley said special status category under the 14th Finance Commission framework is only for North Eastern and Hill states. He said Polavaram is a national project and further funding is being arranged through NABARD.<br/><br/>Earlier, participating in the resumed discussion, Ananda Bhaskar Rapolu of Congress urged the government to create some other category for Andhra Pradesh as after bifurcation it has become a revenue deficit state. Minister of State for Science and Technology and TDP member, Y S Chowdhary asked the government to implement the commitments made to Andhra Pradesh. He blamed the Congress and the BJP both responsible for the division of the state without taking all stakeholders into confidence. Mr. Chowdhary said there is a need to work out on a solution to implement the assurances. <br/><br/>
