Centre clears eight hydro electric projects in Indus basin, says Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu

The Centre has cleared eight hydro electric projects in the Indus basin. In reply to a question, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti  Bishweswar  Tudu said that out of the eight projects cleared, Seven are in Ladakh and one in Jammu & Kashmir.  He said, the centre has cleared seven projects with a capacity of 140 Megawatts at an estimated cost of 2072 crore rupees in Durbuk Shyok, Sankoo, Nimmu  Chilling, Rongdo, Mangdum Sangra, Hunderman Kargil and Tamasha in Ladakh.  All the hydroelectric projects in Ladakh are with no irrigation benefits. However, Ratan Nag project in Kishtwar district of J&K with 10.50 MW at an estimated cost of over 315 crore rupees has irrigation benefits as well.<br />'' <br />'' He also said, thirty-seven major hydroelectric projects with a total capacity of 12763 MW, are under construction in the country in various states.<br />''
