Centre circulates Food Security Bill to states for their views

The Centre has circulated a draft of the National Food Security Bill to the state governments for their views. This was stated by the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Sharad Pawar during question hour in the Rajya Sabha today. <br/> <br/>He said the government is also planning to convene a meeting of the Chief Ministers in this regard. Referring to food situation in the country, Mr Pawar said while 16 states were hit by drought, several other states including Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were affected by excessive rainfall. He said the Centre has already taken measures to compensate the losses suffered during the Kharif season through various central schemes. <br/> <br/>The Minister said some states including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh had taken timely measures to bring in more land for wheat production. The minister also expressed that hope that this year also, there can be surplus of wheat production in the country like last year.<br/> <br/>
