Centre charges BJP, Sangh Parivar with demolishing disputed structure at Ayodhya

The Centre on Tuesday said that the BJP and Sangh Pariwar was solely responsible for the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya and it was part of a pre-planned, pre-mediated and cold-blooded conspiracy.<br/><br/>Replying to the debate on the Liberhan Commission report even as the BJP continued shouting slogans in the well of the House, the Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram said that the evidence placed before the commission proves that the demolition was part of the well thought out conspiracy to achieve political ambitions.<br/><br/>While admitting that it was the wrong political judgment of the then Central Government headed by Nrasimha Rao Government to have trusted the Kalyan Singh Government, the Home Minister said that the then UP government did not keep its commitments and promise as well as the assurances till the last moment to protect the disputed structure and used state machinery to help the Kar Sevaks to demolish the structure in a planned manner.<br/><br/>He said, the state police was not only a silent spectator but even provided the Kar Sevaks with implements even as the BJP and Sangh Pariwar leaders continued making provocative speeches.<br/><br/>He said that the para-military forces by the Centre were kept in the barracks and not deployed at the site. He wanted to know what were the senior BJP leaders, including Mr. L.K. Advani, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi were doing at the site and what were their intentions.<br/><br/>The Home Minister said that there have been dangerous consequences of the events of 6th of December, 1992 which have resulted in the killing of innocent people belonging to both the communities in January 1993 and other incidents thereafter.<br/><br/>Concluding his speech, the Home Minister said that the people have rejected the communal politics by defeating BJP first in 2004 and then in 2009 and have voted for secular forces.<br/><br/>Earlier, the House was adjourned twice following pandemonium over the remarks by a Congress member about Atal Behari Vajpayee.<br/><br/>Despite the apology by the Home Minister, the expunging of the remarks by the chair and the expression of regret by the Congress member, the BJP members continued to raise pitch all through the Home Minister’s reply till the House was finally adjourned for the day.<br/><br/>Earlier, participating in the debate, Sushma Swaraj of the BJP asked the government to reject the Liberhan Commission Report saying it can sow the seeds of communal riots. Mrs. Sushma Swaraj said that a solution should be found to the problem through a dialogue with the two communities. Dismissing the report as a bundle of contradictions, written with pre-conceived notions and for opportunistic ends, Mrs. Swaraj said that the party was rejecting the report lock stock and barrel.<br/><br/>Basudev Acharya of the CPIM who resumed the debate for the second day on the report said that the demolition was the result of conspiracy of the Sangha Parivar, the central government failed to take any action to protect the structure.<br/><br/>Mr. Beni Prasad Verma of Congress said that the leaders, who have been indicted by the commission should be debarred from contesting the elections.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent says the marathon nine hour high voltage debate which lasted for more than nine hours spread over two days witnessed allegations, counter-allegations and frequent interruptions as tempers ran high.<br/><br/>The Rajya Sabha will take up the issue on Wednesday.
