Centre cautions states against leak of Aadhaar data on portals

The Centre has cautioned states against disclosing Aadhaar data and other personal details of individuals on their official websites.<br/><br/>The Information and Technology Ministry has also asked the states to review website contents and ensure that personal data of individuals, including Aadhaar numbers do not appear on portals. <br/><br/>IT Secretary Aruna Sundararajan has written to Chief Secretaries of States for strict compliance with provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Aadhaar Act. <br/><br/>The letter said, publishing such information is a clear contravention of the provisions and is punishable with imprisonment up to three years. <br/><br/>The direction came amid recent instances of data leak on official websites of Jharkhand government.
