Central Government has cancelled allotment of five coal blocks to different power companies in Jharkhand. The list includes Banhardi coal block to the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) and three coal blocks in North Karnpura to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and one coal block of Shahpur Jamar Pani to the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The order of cancellation was issued after these companies failed to act on notice by the Union Coal Ministry to start coal production in the allotted coal mines. Official sources have told AIR Correspondent that the mine to the JSEB was allotted in 2006.
