Centre begins aggressive procurement of Kharif pulses to ensure MSP to farmers

Central agencies have started aggressive procurement to ensure minimum support prices to farmers after the arrival of crop of Kharif pulses in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. So far, 200 centres have been set up in pulses producing states and more will be added after arrival of Tur crop in October- November. <br/><br/>An inter-ministerial committee chaired by Consumer Affairs Secretary Hem Pande reviewed the prices and availability of pulses at a meeting in New Delhi today. During the meeting, Mr. Pande directed the NAFED, FCI and SFAC to give wide publicity to the procurement operations so that farmers get MSP. The meeting was informed that farmers are getting better prices of their crop in the market also following direct procurement by government agencies at MSP rates.
